Special shout outs
Thanks to some stats we pulled from the 2016 competition, we know that approximately 5% of entrants receive Double Golds. The fact that 10 of your winemakers (from a pool of 7,000 plus!) came home with the highest medals in the competition is incredible. Kudos to Camille, Evangelos, Jac, Jacqueline, Karen, Ken, Matt, Scott P, Scott K and Wayne. They deserve a major pat on the back!
A special kudos goes to Jac Cole this year. Not only did his Chardonnays both score Double Golds – his 2016 Unoaked Chardonnay won Best of Class! There’s no better Alexander Valley Chard on the market if you ask the judges… and we have to agree.
You proved top-shelf wines don’t have to cost an arm and a leg
All 44 wines were judged based on their LIST prices – the prices you’d have to pay for a comparable bottle in the store (if you could even find one, that is).
- Wayne’s sparkling Sonoma Rosé won a Double Gold, triumphing over legendary Champagne house Taittinger – they sell bubbly for HUNDREDS. Angels can get Wayne’s bottle for $18.99 – just sayin’
- Karen’s Petite Sirah soared to the top with a Double Gold – beating established value brands like Cameron Hughes and Bogle. And Angels can get it for $10.99!
- You get the idea. There are plenty more exclusive wines where that came from.
…and champion wines can come from regions you’d never expect – you’re so ahead of the curve
- Camille’s Terre de Feu Lake County Cabernet was 1 of 3 wines to win a Double Gold medal in her category – scoring higher than Cab Sauvs coming from famous regions like Napa, Chalk Hill and Anderson Valley!
- Ana’s limited-edition Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon was the only Double Gold medalist harvested from the peaks of Pine Mountain…
- And Scott Kelley brought home a giant Double Gold trophy for his incredibly rare northwest red – thanks to you, now the world knows how much Oregon Tempranillo rocks!
As always, Angel prices stay the same
Sometimes you see wine prices skyrocket because of prestigious awards and recognition. But rest assured, Angel prices are based on the true cost of making the wine – so those prices stay the same.
Where else can you get a Best of Class, Double Gold decorated Chardonnay from the ritziest region in Sonoma Valley for $12.99?! Nowhere but right here.
PS – No winemakers were harmed…
Every independent winemaker YOU fund is free to make the wines they love – without having to worry about added expenses, like marketing and advertising (that includes expensive competition fees). Rest assured that we cover all these expenses for the winemaker, and don’t take it away from their funding. That’s how we keep the wines so affordable for Angels.
If you want a taste of these medal winning wines, you should:
- Make sure you’re an Angel – so you get the best pricing on the best wines (and support independent winemakers, too)
- Follow the winning winemakers– so you can get updates when their trophy wines are back in stock.
