Behind the Wine

How to rescue a Napa winemaker from an earthquake (HINT: Drink more wine!)

I feel lucky to have made it through the earthquake with my body and wines intact. But many of you asked what we can do to help winemakers affected by the Napa quake.

The Napa Earthquake absolutely wrecked Randy’s winemaking dream.

Randy Hester, one of our most popular Angel-funded winemakers, has a private side project: a beautiful range of wines called Lightning.

The 6.1 earthquake that rocked Napa Valley knocked over hundreds of barrels, and this photo from the winery where his 2013 wines were kept show a mountain of barrels that are literally seeping wine every day.

They’re still pulling the barrels out of the heap like giant jenga blocks, and Randy’s heartbroken at the number of barrels that have come out damaged (sometimes ruined and empty).

Randy needs a helping hand.

He said in an email to his customers:

“Many of you have asked how you can help and we just encourage you to keep drinking Lightning Wines! Nothing will help us more than your support of our wines.”

So in that spirit, let’s buy the remainder of his delicious 2012 wines.

If you want to help and live in AK, CA, DC, FL, HI, ID, MN, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, NC, ND, OR, SC, TN, LA, VA, WV, WI or WY, you can order this case: The Randy Rescue Pack has 1 delicious bottle of Lightning Grenache. This is my favorite Lightning wine, silky, smooth and dark with some really intense fruit. There’s also a bottle of the Lightning CdP, a white Rhone-style blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Picpoul. It’s refreshing and delicious. And then 4 bottles of Randy’s Rachis Sauvignon Blanc.

Otherwise, you can snag one of these: There’s no Lightning in this pack, but it does feature 6 of Randy’s Rachis Sauvignon Blanc and…

All proceeds go to saving Randy – all the wine goes to you.

Thank you so much for your time.

Randy is a great wine maker and the case of wine is already on order. For me this is a no lose situation even if I didn’t get the wine (which I will) because Randy needs the help, I have the ability and I look forward to drinking Randy’s wines for years to come. Join the cause and buy a case (actually half) before they are all gone. They will sell out quickly and then the lightning will be no more (until the next vintage).

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
